Top Wineries in North Georgia: A Dahlonega Wine Tour

United States

A little delayed in writing this post, but life and website issues got the best of me! But, what better timing for this post as cooler weather has arrived which means the mountains are calling! I grew up North of Atlanta and went to college in Dahlonega, Georgia.  Over the last several years, Dahlonega has become quite the hot spot for wineries and a weekend away was just what this coastal girl needed at the end of July.  I drove up from Savannah on Friday night and stayed at the Dahlonega Resort and Vineyard which has a combination of cabins and a small boutique 2-story hotel.  The accommodations were great and the room was cozy and quaint!

Before the wine tour started on Saturday, we drove into town to get some breakfast at Picnic Cafe.  Picnic Cafe is located in the Dahlonega Square has been one of my favorite spots for coffee and something sweet!

Our wine tour was booked through Dahlonega Wine Tours and our first stop was conveniently located at our resort, Dahlonega Resort and Vineyard.  The tour started at 11:30 a.m. with a tasting and lunch at the resort. The tour we selected included lunch and 4 winery stops – more information on the services that Dahlonega Wine Tours (DSH Transportation) provides can be found here.  Let me just say that scheduling a tour and getting chauffeured around to each winery was just amazing (because let’s be honest, who really wants to drive themselves from winery to winery!)!

Katie, the owner of Dahlonega Wine Tours/DSH Transportation was so fun to tour with and provided great recommendations during and after the tour.

Our tour included stops at the following vineyards:

All of our stops were close together and Katie dropped us off right in front of each winery which was extremely convenient.  The weather was also perfect all weekend – not too hot at all and we ended up escaping the rain!

Although not on the tour, I have been to (and love) Monteluce and Frogtown wineries. You really can’t go wrong with any winery in Dahlonega – they are all unique, picturesque and fun! My favorite part of our stop at Cavendar Creek was definitely the wine slushies – so good and refreshing – I’m drinking the mango slushie here!

We ate at another one of my favorite spots for brunch during our mountain getaway, Bourbon Street Grille.  I highly recommend the beignets and eggs benedict.  Oh, and the mimosas! We also ate a new restaurant (to me) and I was very impressed with 19 Degrees North Seafood and Grille. Both restaurants are conveniently located in the Dahlonega Square.

If you’re looking to escape to the mountains – this is the perfect time to go!  Check out my Treehouse Getaway post for more restaurant recommendations and things to do in and around Dahlonega, including a wine tour with DSH Wine Tours!
